Mindil Beach

Darwin accommodation

Mindil Beach is located right near the Darwin CBD and has a lot to offer the visitor from relaxing strolls along its white sandy beaches with the waters of the Timor Sea lapping at the shore to visiting the famous Mindil Beach Sunset Markets held every Thursday and Sunday during the dry season. Having the beach so close to the Darwin CBD lends a special kind of ambiance to the city and reminds everyone to take pleasure in the simple things in life like fish and chips on the beach with family or friends.

There is nothing quite like a walk along Mindil Beach late in the afternoon watching the golden and fuchsia tones of sunset settling along the sky. Since Darwin has an average temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, it is no surprise that swimming is a popular past time, but you do have to be careful about where and when you decide to take a dip. Other locals of the box jellyfish and crocodile kind may be sharing the water with you. Swimming at Mindil Beach is considered safe during the dry season and this is the most popular of Darwin’s swimming beaches. If however, you are unsure whether it is safe or not to swim, make sure that you check with local life savers before diving in. Mindil Beach is located in the Darwin suburb of Fanny Bay and you can walk from the CBD or take bus number 4 or 6.
