Wharf Precinct

Darwin accommodation

Darwin’s Wharf Precinct has always been an important part of the northern city from the era when the city’s pearling industry was based there to being a focal point for the defence of Australia from the enemy in World War II and the location of the beginnings of the city’s multicultural population. These days, there is much to see and do around the Darwin wharf area from some of the city’s best dining to historical landmarks.

Darwin’s Wharf Precinct

Some of the local landmarks and icons that you can find scattered around this area include an exhibition of the pearling industry and a pearl gift shop, the Darwin Civil Aviation Terminal, the fuel installations and the steam pump house. There are several ocean cruises that depart from the wharf area and can take you out on the waters for a romantic or relaxing sunset cruise.

There are also some sensational dining experiences to be had around the wharf area and these restaurants boast some sensational ocean views. Two of the best known seafood restaurants around the wharf area are The Jetty Restaurant and Crustaceans on the Wharf. For something a little more casual there are some excellent take away restaurants and gobbling down some fish and chips as you cast a line in the water off the jetty is an excellent way to wind down and enjoy the weather and view. In addition to the dining, there are also several retail shops that make for interesting browsing and add to the overall bustling atmosphere around the Darwin Wharf Precinct.
