Aquascene

Darwin accommodation

Aquascene is the scene of one of the most enchanting Darwin attractions. Several times a week at high tide, swarms of fish come into the shallows looking for a feed. Aquascene gives you the opportunity to hand feed hundreds of fish living off the Darwin coast when they mingle in the shallow waters at Doctors Gully. Some of the fish that join the throng for a daily feed include: milk fish, bream, catfish, barramundi, mullet and more.

Aquascene has become a Darwin institution since it began in the 1950s when a local threw some scraps out to a few mullet. Fish in these parts must be quite the gossips as word very quickly spread and more and more fish were coming to the party. Word also spread among the locals and more and more people began to come and feed the fish. These days the staff at Aquascene provide you with the fish food and you can wade out into the warm waters and among the hungry waiting fish. If you want to feed the fish from afar, there is seating for you to do it comfortably.

In addition to purchasing your fish feed, there are also kiosk facilities available as well as souvenir t-shirts, post cards and the like. The centre is open everyday of the year except Christmas Day. The times for the fish feeding will vary each day since it is reliant on the high tide. You can find the times for the day you want to visit by looking in Darwin newspapers or asking at your hotel.
